I just downloaded the new Nine Inch Nails single Discipline from nin.com.
In the ID3 tag there is a comment to check back at nin.com on May 5th. My suspicion is that another album is going to be released. Spectacular!

Too drunk to die from being knifed
Thursday, April 17th, 2008 - 20:52 EDT
This is a great article about a Russian man who was out drinking and got stabbed in the back. He's fine. He rode the bus home, made himself some breakfast, then went to bed. His wife woke him up when she looked over and saw a handle sticking out of his back.
I think that this proves, beyond a shadow of doubt, that an army of drunk russians could conquer the world! But only if the supply chain of booze can remain uninterrupted.

Fuji Blew

Normally I'm not one to comment about my culinary experiences, but this one was so extraordinary I feel the need to share with the world...
Recently myself and some friends went to the Japanese restaurant "Fuji" in downtown Guelph. The big attraction was that it offered all-you-can-eat.
The food was okay, the selection reasonable (not as good as other places). The price seemed a little high given some of the other all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants in the area.
The big problem was the service. I found the staff to not be very helpful. i asked a couple questions about the menu, however the staff wasn't able to provide an answer or offer to find someone who could provide one.
When we went to pay for my meal, they rudely refused to honour their coupon (which was the whole reason to try the restaurant in the first place). They actually got angry with us for pointing out they were completely reversing the printed terms of the coupon.
Overall I found the experience very souring. I don't think I will be returning to Fuji, there are too many choices in the area to put up with crap like this.

Keeping me busy
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 - 22:27 EST
It's been a while since I've posted a personal update on what I've been keeping myself busy with these days...
Climbing I've been doing for about 6 months now. Roughly twice a week I head over to the Guelph Grotto and try to push my limits a little further than last time. The first night I climbed, I did a bunch of 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6 climbs... and boy was I tired. These days I tend to climb 5.9 and 5.10 routes most of the time. For reference a 5.0 would be considered a steep ladder, and a 5.15 is essentially a smooth overhang. Give me a shout if you're ever interested in checking it out.
Jeep stuff. I have my '05 Jeep TJ and it really entertains me. Over the last two years I've been a member of a local Jeep club called Tri-City Jeep Club. It's a good group of people to go out off-roading and camping with. And there's always people willing to help out when you have a technical problem. These days I've been running their website for them. I've got some new php code that I've been working on for the last little while... (more on that another time).
Work. I'm not really going to talk about this much. I maintain the philosophy that I can avoid putting myself in an awkward situation if I just don't say where I work or what I work on. The last thing I need is to accidentally disclose something that i'm not supposed to. But overall I've been pretty pleased with how things have been going.
Skiing. Once again Gord and I set out on another fun filled skiing adventure. 7th annual trip. of course we were joined by some friends and as usual shenanigans ensued.
Anyways, that's my little update for now. I'll quit procrastinating and get back to what i'm supposed to be doing...

Not dead, just lazy
Monday, February 25th, 2008 - 12:28 EST
Just so everyone knows, this blog and my Project 52 have not actually died, they were just being neglected.
The camera is packed in my murse, so I do have every intention of taking more photos on a more regular basis.
In the event that I do take more than 1 photo in a week, would people rather that I create a folder for Week N that contains all those photos? Or should I label it something similar to "Week N - Monday"?

How times have changed

I watched Rambo III last night, not as good as the first two. But I wanted to make sure that I had the full "story" under my belt before seeing the latest movie.
The following is the dedication message at the end of the movie... how the times have changed since 1988.

Zero Punctuation
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 - 14:03 EST
I recently stumbled across something called Zero Punctuation. This is a weekly video game review done via a web video. So far you may be thinking that this sounds fairly boring and why would you bother wasting your time with yet another web trend that's been done a million times (YAWTTBDAMT for those who like acronyms).
Zero Punctuation is different... because it really really fun and requires that you pay attention. First of all, it's call Zero Punctuation because the reviewer attempts to speak without punctuation (I realize this isn't exactly possible, but bear with me...). So what we have is a reviewer who speaks very fast and unleashes a very cynical hilarity storm upon the audience.
No amount of explaining is sufficient to describe it, you just need to watch. Below is the round up of the current generation of video game consoles.

Project 52

Inspired by how much I enjoy Gord's Project 365 (and now followed by Project 366) and my new digital camera. I have decided to try my own hand at it...
I present to you... Project 52!. Similar in concept for a 365 project, but downsized to fit mylaziness lifestyle.

Frustration
Def'n: troubleshooting a computer problem on Windows Vista that is running in french.
As many of my avid readers know, my french skills are "le crap". However my computer skills are pretty decent. Tonight I met my match; I attempted to troubleshoot a french windows vista problem.
Earlier the same evening I was troubleshooting french xp. I can handle that. The icons, layouts and error messages are familiar (even in a different language) to me. However you throw me with vista and I don't have any familiarity with the above.
It was long and grueling, but eventually I solved the problem. The scary part is that I'm not sure how much of the problem was the language slowing me down and how much was vista-isms.
-Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in The Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus.

Bending to the pressure

A little place called Chalk River, Ontario has a very important purpose. The nuclear reactor located there produces roughly half the world's radio isotopes. These isotopes are used for medicial imaging.
Recently this reactor was taken offline for routine maintenance. Its reactivation was further delayed due to problems with the safety systems that needed to be resolved.
Yesterday the Canadian government intervened and legislated the reactivation of the reactor against the advice of the safety body that oversees the reactors.
Although I don't disagree that people were in need of their medical treatments, I don't think that putting people at risk of a nuclear disaster is worth it.
